Title: A Novel Approach Towards Sustainable Testbeds: ToMaTo on CloudLab

Abstract: Experimental facilities are accepted as tools for research such as Future Internet research but they lack on sustainability. Once established they have to be maintained and renewed every few years. But because of missing long term funding for operating/maintenance and reinvestment a lot of them had been terminated. In this presentation we describe a software-defined testbed on demand which is based on the "Topology Management Tool (ToMaTo)" a software environment which was developed within the G-Lab project. ToMaTo first designed to run on the G-Lab infrastructure it is now independed of the underlying infrastructure and it can be deployed to arbitrary Cloud infrastructures on demand. Here we describe the deployment of ToMaTo to the ClouLab infrastructure offered by the NSF funded CloudLab project. This approach offers a new way for sustainable testbeds where neither upfront investments nor recurring and operating/maintenance costs for the infrastructure will burden the budgets of the projects.
